Denbigh Town Football Club

Denbigh Football Club approached the Clocaenog Wind Farm Fund for grant aid for the replacement of the grass playing surface and drainage system whilst creating a borehole for sustainable use of the new sprinkler system.  This was needed as the existing surface meant there were large, interrupted periods during which the pitch was unplayable due to the rain and poor drainage system in place.

After funding obtained from Clocaenog and the work had been completed Denbigh have been able to reach all our ambitions of playing uninterrupted football for the senior men’s, ladies’ teams and opening the pitch for other sections of the football club.

On top of this they were contacted by the Welsh FA and asked to host several international games. On Saturday 9th April they hosted Brazil and Wales Under 16’s. This was a huge success and attracted a local spectator crowd of over 1,000 people. They are also hosting Spain and Brazil Under 16’s and Wales and Spain Under 16’s.

Junior members of the football club were selected to be ball boys for the teams, the response from both themselves and their parents has been fantastic

The pitch and these games have given the profile of the football club and town an enormous boost and they can only hope that it will continue in the future. The Welsh FA are now talking to them about helping to fund new changing rooms, the existing are 60 years old and are in urgent need of rebuilding.

Clocaenog are delighted to be able to support such a fantastic project and look forward to attending a game in the future!!  Congratulations to Denbigh Town Football Club in their partnerships with the Welsh FA!!

"None of this would have been possible without the funding we received to complete the project"

“I was present at the under 16’s International between Spain and Wales, I would like to congratulate the club on everything it has achieved over the last twelve months, this night was a spectacular success for the whole town and it was amazing to see 1,000 people at the game.”
